The Sinaloa Saints Take Back the Red Rock
By Coach Himes
The Sinaloa Cross Country Team had a very successful season this year. The team had a solid crew of 33 runners from all three grade levels and both genders. The team practiced two days a week after school to improve their health related fitness and prepare them for three “Cross Country Runs” this season. Their hard work and dedication to practice as a team helped them take back the Red Rock Championship this season!
The Sinaloa Cross Country Team started the season with the Red Rock Run (district meet) at Indian Valley College (IVC) on October 9th. Serina Wesonga (7th grade girl) and the “Roberts Brother”, Travis (7th grade boy) and Wesley (8th grade boy), came home with first place “Red Rock” awards to help the Saints win the Red Rock Team Championship. Hill Middle School has been a dominate Cross Country Team for the past couple of years, but Sinaloa had a great day and claimed back the “Red Rock Award”.
The team’s next competition was the Hornet Swarm Invitational at IVC. It was a true “Cross Country” environment that day with rain coming down and extreme trail conditions. Mr. Bousquette, Novato High Cross Country Coach, was quoted saying on the day of the race “this is a cross country meet and the race is on, rain or shine”. The Saints showed up in the rain, won a bunch of individual medals and came home with another team championship. Thank you Coach Bousquette for putting on the Hornet Swam Invitational, “it was awesome”.
The last meet of the year was the Marin County Cross Country Championship. The Saints again had a very successful day and won a bunch of individual medals. The Saints finished the Cross Country Season with a team celebration at Villa Roma’s Pizza in Novato. The team had some pizza while enjoying some great stories, a highlight video that was produced by Mr. Matern an 8th grade Core Teacher at Sinaloa, a picture slide show and special treats from some wonderful parents. Coach Himes wanted to thank Mr. Matern for the Red Rock Highlight Video, Victoria Crawley for her help and pictures, Mrs. Sonntag for her picture slide show, Isabella Michon for her treats at the team party, and all the parents that helped with transportation or in some other way. The Saint parents made it possible for the Sinaloa Cross Country Team to be successful!
